Draft
Privacy
This note matches the app. It is a draft for review, written so writers can see what the desk actually does.
What we store
An account holds your name, email, password hash, and whether the email is verified. A profile holds a display name, handle, optional pronouns, a short bio, an optional avatar, and your default privacy. Pieces hold the text, the kind of work, the privacy tier, and whether they are published. Feedback notes hold whatever you type into the form. Contest entries remember which piece you submitted.
Who can read a piece
Private means only you. Community means a person who is signed in. Everyone means a guest on the web can open the page. Drafts stay in your library even if the privacy tier says otherwise. New pieces default to private.
Where it sits
The database is MySQL, and every ByLine table is prefixed ByLine_ so it can share a server without mixing into another product’s tables. We do not sell journals.
Questions go through the feedback form.
